John D'Angelico, famed maker of archtop guitars, had a connection with the United Guitar Co. of New Jersey. For his electric models he ordered bodies from this firm , which he finished with his own necks and fitted with pick-ups. This very unusual arch-top guitar with it's scroll body shape was made around 1940. With carved front and back of spruce and maple, it fits in the mold of Gibson scroll guitars and another unusual D'Angelico that appeared on the market some years ago, the so called teardrop model . It is very likely that John D'Angelico designed this guitar as the headstock and pearl shield is also similar to his own earlier archtops., There are no marking that i have found so far, but i will do an interior search one of these days.
The neck is huge , and the sound after some joint glueing was done is excellent. It has an original case which is shaped to fit.
